Lovely orchids! I find there is too much in this pic for some reason, my eyes keep moving all over the image and can't settle on one particular object. Maybe a shallower DOF may have blurred the background out more. Another idea would have been to put up a black (or colored) sheet of cardboard behind the orchids so you have a uniform background.

Nice creative take on the challenge. Points for being imaginative and thinking outside of the box, but I think you can appreciate shooting a "still" animal is certainly easier then a live one. So that kinda balances out the creative aspect. However high tecnical marks for a good shot.
