| 11/19/2005 02:33:32 AM | Invisible attackerby henningComment: Cool! Nice shot! I like the way you either used a double exposure or long exposure. The 'ghost' peice is setup just right for this idea. I like the composition of the shot, the overall feel and the use of black and white was a good choice but the problem I have is the lack of actual black to white, I see black and lots of gray but no real white, exept maybe on the very front peice where it looks like the light is blown out on the top for some reason. A grain effect would have worked wonderfully with this shot I think even though I don't normally like grain effect photos, LOL A 7 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/19/2005 02:31:12 AM | The Masterby MAKComment: Wow, up close and personal and scary! :)
Yes, they can be the masters of camouflage and disguise and while this is a wonderful macro of said Praying Mantis, it's not really being hidden or camouflaged very well now is it? I would have liked this much better if it was further back and showing me how it was hiding itself. The focus seems a bit soft overall, even on the face part. But again, wonderful effort on the whole. A 7 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/19/2005 02:26:50 AM | now you see me...now you don'tby birdyblueComment: Ewwwww! BUG!!! Bugs bug me, LOL! :)
This is a good take on the challenge and I like the way it's using the rule of thirds to draw your attention to that upper right corner to your little buddy there. Good focus overall, lighting is also well done and the overall composition is also well done. My one thing I personally notice is the jump out at me factor, just a bit dull in color but in a way that works with this because it's old wood and you certainly don't expect old wood to jump out at you, unless of course it's camouflaging a bug! LOL! An 8 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/19/2005 02:24:49 AM | An Army Man At Workby aledfcComment: Good job! I had to go looking for him! If this is a real army man he's doing a good job, if it's not, someone is playing well at army.
This is a great concept on the challenge but the thing that pops out at me first is that white hose or pipe down the right hand side. And when you're trying to draw attention away from yourself, that's okay but I personally feel for this purpose it's not useful at all. A tighter crop would have worked better for this or having the open space on the left if possible. The person hiding did a great job with the clothes and such but their one mistake that I can see is the lips. Pink as can be, LOL! Stand right out there! Also the colors seem just a bit flat, maybe turn up the contrast or curves just a touch to make them pop out? A 5 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/19/2005 02:18:03 AM | Lilly leaf-hopperby beafliesComment: Wow! Nice capture, just flat ot nice! The way the leaf hopper blends in is a perfect example of natural camouflage! I like the way this was focused, even though the leaf Hopper wasn't razor sharp he/she (how would you be able to tell?) is the main focus. The color seems just a bit dull overall but it works with this particular picture. My one problem with the shot is the pollen stem in the lower right corner. It works with the picture, just not sure you needed that much of it in there. An 8 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/17/2005 09:38:28 PM | Shhh! Don't move a feather... He'll never see us...by aronya1Comment: Hahaha, this makes me smile. I love Macaws, they are so personalble and sweet yet at the same time like having a 3 year old forever, LOL:)
This is a wonderful shot, as far as meeting the challenge, that's a bit of a push IMO, so we will so strictly on the shot itself. I like the composure of the shot, and even though the branch is leaning from one side to the other, a little pet peeve that might normally drive me bonkers, ;-), it works for this shot because the wing also leads right up. The expression in their eyes is wonderful and the lighting is well done. That branch looks like it's ready to break though, should be interesting when it does! THe colors are also great but could take just a tweak to really make them pop out at you, these birds are so colorful in real life and it's hard to express that on screen at times. The crop on the sides works well since each bird had a little bit of feather cut off so overall, very nicely done, a 7 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/17/2005 02:31:59 PM | Stripedby sarrobiComment: Okay, I'm gettng dizzy here looking at this. Are these spinning or is it just me? WELL DONE!!!! Il ike this idea, the execution of the idea and hiding that candy cane in there is perfect for this, giving the eye a little bit of a break just when it needed it because honestly if I had to look at just the mints, I wouldn't be able to handle it for very long, LOL :)
The colors are spot on as they say but the light seems just a tad, a tiny smidgen harsh where it spotlights off the candy. The orientation of the shot also seems off just a bit, almost too straight for this, if you are going to mess with my eyes, rotate the picture just a bit more so that I'm brought in one side and falling out the other by following the trail of candy. | 11/17/2005 02:29:02 PM | In Liberty's clothesby srugoloComment: Hey, you almost got me, I had to look twice to see it wasn't the actual Statue of Liberty, LOL! Welld one!
I'm getting the feeling there is a double meaning to this shot but I'm not going to get into that discussion, instead I'll just comment on the photograph itself.
First, BRAVO! Great idea, nice concept and excellent overall composition of the shot. I like the use of the color on this one, the cold, forbidding blue and the way 'Lady Liberty' has her back turned to the camera really accents that color choice. The use of grain is also a bonus on this one. I normally hate grainy shots but this one works and works well. The cropping seems a tad off for some reason, maybe if it was just a touch tighter on the top so the torch is closer to the edge? Then to me you would have two exits on the shot, bringing them in on the right with the 'crown' and they can be lead out on the other side of the crown or the torch if the crop on top was tighter.
