I can't believe this scored so low. The decision is clear, the shot well-composed, and the key elements of the photo highlighted well. Apparently that's just me though. Sorry about your undeserved placing.

DOF is maybe a little shallow, I'd like to see a bit more definition in the features of the hand. Well-composed shot though.

You captured the feeling well. Might be a little more interesting picture without the subjects dead center, but this works OK.

Nice idea. Might have been better with the focus more on the checkerboard and the pointing hand, the girl in the foreground's not really the most important part of this picture.

Nice capture, it's very clear and has a good feeling of height to it. The expression is great too. Loose tie to the challenge though, it relies very heavily on the title.

I really like the light coming in from the window on the left, and the setup of this shot makes it very interesting to look at. Good use of b&w, this could have felt very cluttered in color.

Interesting choice of focal point, had you panned with the girl she'd be the subject but as is it's the grafitti behind her. This might not be the angle you're going for, but a schoolish prop (if this wasn't a candid) could tell more of a story...her deciding to study instead of be on the streets.

Because of the jumble behind them, the two girls in the center don't really catch my eye, though they seem to be the subjects. Nice clear picture though, and the border adds a good finishing touch without being intrusive at all.
