How I love your photographs. Not just these, all of them. We've been together here for more than a decade, and I think that I have given you more 10s and more enthusiastic comments than I have anyone else here. You have thrilled me so many times that I'm sick of it now. No, just kidding, I could never tire of what your pictures inspire in me. Tell you a secret; more than once (to be precise, twice) is has been looking at one of your photographs that re-ignited my passion for photographs when the lamp had gone out.

So what about this essay? The images are simply beautiful. Especially 40 and 41. They make me feel profoundly thrilled and I really can't express exactly why, which is for me a bonus because I love art that I can understand but not explain.

I'm not saying much about the essay. It's fun, diverting and good to the last drop. Yum. Can I have another cup, please?

Others have reacted to your essay much as I'd have tried to do, so contributing one more of those doesn't much interest me.

Instead, I'm commenting about you. You know that I've always appreciated your work. You must, from the many comments you've inspired from me. And I mean appreciated in both senses ... as in applauded and as in understood.

Here's what I love, and it's demonstrated yet again in the idea for this essay: you have always used photography as a path to observation. And now I mean observation in both senses, as in seen and as in remarked upon.

For you, photography doesn't seem to be anything more nor less than a language. Most photographers produce photographs that say, "Aren't I just amazing?" Your photographs say, "Aren't you curious?"

Thank you for that difference.

These are beautiful B&W photographs, nicely seen and deftly executed.

For me, this essay is very strong because what it showcases is the difference between what the camera sees and what we see. It explores one of the things that makes cameras (and photographs) enchanting: that cameras and photographs can do far more than documenting reality – they can transform reality.

Sometimes the transformation is extravagant, with long exposures and similar tricks. But sometimes it's subtle as in this essay, where there are no tricks involved. Just a thoughtful and curious photographer–artist understanding and commanding her medium.

I seconds that. This also looks like a wedding that I just might not have loathed attending. I reckon that later one might spot Cleaver Green weaving among the guests, holding an opened bottle of bubbles and chatting up the bridesmaids.

My favourite moment was the "Love is the smoke ..."

If I were a bride I'd definitely ask you to do the pictures. Maybe the cake as well. And of course the seating plan. And I'd throw you my garter.

I always enjoy your deft monochromes. And again I do here. The feeling I got from this essay was of a place displaced. I felt sad but I'm not at all sure if the sadness was for the people of Pingtung, or for me. The essence of this feeling, and of this essay, is all in the cover photo:
