Very nice exposure - and the gesture is captured well. I am 'gobsmacked' as they say. I can't imagine how you got the exposure so well in what appears to be bright ligting, but must have meant a very tricky exposure

Congratulations on the whole thing - colour, lighting, right contrast, timing, and so forth.

I have noticed how much travelling you do. I didn't think Physicists were such globetrotters - how wrong I was.

Lev - I got here from your comments from another shot, and think you have great skill as a photographer. Most impressive work on this site. Do you do photography professionally? I think you should. You have a lot of Photogrphic flair, and it's lovely photographs with excellent control and the right levels in all the shots I have seen of yours

I will keep an eye on your work - I am sure I will learn a lot

I like this shot, and remember the scene from the film - I think you look more like Albert Einstein than Chaplin, but the idea is definately a good one.

All the best for your future

Oh, my goodness! What a gorgeous photo!

I had no idea how beautiful it was there - I have to go see myself

Thanks for the others which you linked to this - I think all of them are very atmospheric and evocative. I like the dramatic lighting and filtering you use, or rather postfiltering. I think you would produce some highly saleable images with additional software. I was most impressed with some shots the other week, enhanced with lucisart software. There is a free 30-day trial just now, so I am going to download it when I have a free weekend

I am sure you will have many more ribbons, and every good wish for your successful married life!

What a beautiful shot - lovely rich color, and the 'expression'. Glad I am not a mouse!

You are listed as having the 350D, and this could be the problem with landscapes. You didnt say what exactly was the problem, but I find the same - to me, there is not enough detail at 8 megapix to show the fine detail, but the sensor in this camera is very sharp with individual pixels.

I find the best thing is to set the film speed to 100, use a tripod, set the camera to RAW setting, use manual settings at about f11, colour saturation to high settings, and autofocus on something about halfway into the picture. If you have a choice of lenses, use your sharpest one if wide angle enough, and take several of each scene or view.

If you use the Canon software, set sharpness to about the threequarter setting, and if you want higher colour just dial it in. Then, in Photoshop, if you want, your can use Unsharp filter to crisp it more, and even then, you can use the sharpen filter to get it at maximum crispness.

You will then get the sharpest, richest shots you can on the camera!

It's a bit hard to move the scenery, but if you can move around, then take several of the scene, and dump the ones you don't like.

There is no substitute for taking more shots, and the rule of thirds is often very useful, where points or objects of interest should fall about one third from the edges of the picture, both from the top and bottom, and both sides - imagine the picture divided into three cuts both accross and down, and where the dividers meet, put objects of interest, and the picture is automatically more interesting. Good idea to read books on landscaper photography, and look at the luminous landscape website. Sorry about longwinded message

What beautiful scenery - I wish I was there - somehow a slightly vandalised council estate just doesn't do it for me - but there is a wealth of lovely fishing vilages just in a few miles, so I shouldn't grumble. The grass is always greener, as they say.

Excellent picture in all respects - well deserved result - We will see more of your shots, I am sure

Do you have a website with more shots of the area - I would love to see some more!

Lovely retouching to show brilliant contrast, color and saturation in your final pix. So impressive. Makes me want to go do it myself.

A beautiful Photograph of a lovely place, well worth an award. I wish I had taken it. I think a graduated filter at the top of the picture (I am assuming you used one), prevents the top being too bright, and concentrates attention on the main part of the whole. Someone said that the right hand could maybe have done with a bit brighter, which could be right. I would still like to buy a print of this picture though, and wish you the very best in your future scenic pictures

Bang on!
A little gem

I want to buy the lens myself

The lighting looks like it was difficult, but expertly used.

A very very good image, and I expect you will be very popular with the local families, all wanting a big mouth photo - should be fun, and maybe make a packet

All the best for the future, which will be good, I think

Knockout!

Mindbogglinglygood!

I wish I could do half as well, but not a chance - I just dont seem to have the ability to do the things I would like, but it is probably the knowledge I lack, plus maybe the software.

This is really, really good - It looks like all that goldwork and handtooling on one of the most expensive handmade leather books you used to be able to find out there.

If you ever make a video about retouching, put me down for one.

I have a Canon 350d, but never expect to be able to do as well

Very, Very Welldone. How much for the full final file?

Very fine shot - lovely use of extra-wide lens. Wish I had taken it, but still, glad someone did. It's my wallpaper for now. Looks like the beast had some gum stuck in the teeth, and trying to clear it out

Hope to see more of your work, and all the best for the future
