Lakeside Silhouetteby PaigeComment: Best so far. Nice work. Star filter? Good example of contrast and I like that the model is very everyday joe looking. Good luck |

Back to Back - Old to Newby danwanComment: What a great opportunity for this challenge. I think the picture is just a little overexposed and bright, but not a bad effort. Good luck |

On Targetby ChrisW123Comment: The dart is just not quite as focused as I think it should be. Good idea, just need a little on the execution part to make this a better pic. |

Reaching for the lightby ladpupmoeComment: Great idea with the blinds. The actual subject is okay, but the effect from the blinds is really well done and well thought out. Nice work |

Exhibit Aby AnnidaComment: Greetings from the Critique Club

Composition - I think this is a very good idea. There are a lot of murders that definitely pose their share of unanswered questions. The blood doesn't look very real though and I think that's a big one here. You might have tried to take it just a little too close. Maybe from a couple inches further back would've been a little more advantageous for the fingerprint. The blood on the cloth below is a good idea, however if this were an exhibit in court, methinks that would be exhibit B. The serrations on the knife are a little odd. Maybe a smooth blade knife would've looked a little better. Who knows?
Technical - Just a little out of focus. Very close. Actually the part with the fingerprint is pretty well focused. Maybe its just good use of "selective" focus. Good lighting and exposure on this one. You might've been able to darken the red color in PS a little to make it look a bit more like blood, but it's not bad as is.
Overall - Pretty good concept with this one. Better than anything i could think of. I think you pulled this one off reasonably well. I think the last line of your comments hit the nail on the head. Most people don't want to think about this stuff except for us sick, twisted individuals who watch Law & Order and CSI every week. I think the picture is pretty good and think it deserved a little better rating than what it got. Good luck in future challenges. - Bob |

Composition - Good strong topic that most of us can relate to. That is something intangible that can sometimes be hard to figure out. You've done great here. This has a great emotive theme to it. The only thing about the objects in the composition that I would have done different is to put the bloom on the flower up instead of down. But that's very minor. The rest of the arrangement is very good.
Technical - I think the mood of this photo is pretty somber and I think that underexposing this to some degree would satisfy the mood a little more. We need to see that the rings are rings and the front of the note is brightly lit. The rest of it could be relatively dark and I think that it would be more emotive. Good sharp picture and I like the toning.
Overall - Nice job with this one O. I think you chose your topic well. A little mood adjustment with the lighting and I think you jump .3 or .4 which is pretty significant. Good work and good luck in the future - Bob |

Composition - I don't really know what question I'm supposed to be asking myself on this one. I don't know what you were going for here. I don't feel this one meets the challenge all that well, if at all. This photo has very limited scoring potential based on the pure composition of it. It doesn't have any vibrant colors, clever or creative angles or perspectives and no real compelling subjects. The other side of that coin, the emotive, sentimental side is also not evident in this picture. That leaves it hanging in oblivion. The lighting is flat, the angle is boring, and the subjects are not compelling at all.
Technical - Nothing really wrong with this picture, but it needs something desperately to make it a little better. It seems focused reasonably well, but not as sharp as it could be. I'm not sure what you could do with this picture technically to make it more appealing to the masses.
Overall - Not a very strong picture and the score shows that as well as anything. Choice of subject is a lot of it. Not showing us anything new or different in terms of the subject and its perception is a lot of it. I don't feel its terribly challengeworthy or topic worthy (and frankly I can usually make almost every picture fit, even loosely). I would say that there isn't a remedy for this picture. There isn't any one thing that's going to make it a contender. Tuck it under your belt for a learning experience and move on the next week. I hope you can appreciate my points, even if they are a little harsh. Its hard to make anything I've said in this whole critique sound good. I got tired of trying so I just laid it out like I saw it. Good Luck to you and take care - Bob |

Frozen Stiffby JeanComment: I took a lot of these in April when we had our freezing rain. You must be in the southern hemisphere somewhere. This isn't bad, but I'm not stunned by it or anything. |
