I gave the shot a 10. It has a special quality to make that made me really feel the joy and emotion. When I look at the smile I feel something so genuine about it embraces and makes me feel like I want join in. The lighting is solid. The composition of solid. It was my favorite of the competition.

As I was going through the shots from 1st place on through, I was expecting to see a nice shot, but not wow. This is a wow. It has depth, interest and mood. While the subject matter does matter, the forms and layers say more to me. A stopper.

Wow! This shot is nice in the thumbnail and even better to size. It works together so well, the red lips - but not over saturated, the grain which adds a primal feel, the bump on the nose that takes the traditional beauty and makes it individual, and the deep straight hair falling over the eye in a "I'm me" attitude. Wow!

I gave this shot a 7 and am surprised to see it so low. It has such warmth and emotion. I love that. I'm guessing it was the technicals that kept it from rating MUCH higher. The focus was too far forward, so that the people are out of focus, slightly. The vertical would probably be better if the line by her head was straight up and the other lines were the ones that came in. Some shadow/highlight to bring out some of the shadows could have helped a bit too.

Still, I love the emotion here and for me, it made up for some of the technicals.
