If people talk to you about harsh shadows and blown highlights and say that it's bad, don't listen. Those things really work here :-)

Pose is excellent and I like the detail and composition, but I feel that the colors are a little flat/gray overall.

Huh. Very interesting! It meets the challenge for me because it does look like a spooky face, plus the colors are very Octoberish. I'm wondering how it might have been if the blue were cropped off entirely. Anyway, I like the idea behind this and think you did a good job :-)

Awww, how adorable. We dressed up our cats, well sort of.. we tried! :-) I think this would have benefited from higher contrast and possibly a smoother background but aside from that, I like the shot a lot and it makes me smile.

Good:
Really nice detail! I also love how the background and the black feathers are nicely blurred. You did a good job with all that!
The brightness and contrast that you adjusted seemed to work out just fine and there are no problems with that as far as I can see.

Not as good:
Lighting is a bit poor - the shadow across the head distracts.
Connection to the challenge - I actually see in the shot red, orange, yellow, (not green), blue, and purple. Some people were looking for rainbows that had the colors all in one place or row. I was just looking to see if all the colors were there, for the most part. So your image would have met the challenge to me, except that the image is dominated so much by the color red. I think that your biggest downfall as far as scores was the connection to the challenge.

When voting on this image, I thought that it was quite nice but did not live up to its full potential.

Nice:
Colors here are very lovely, and they're arranged with obvious care. The background is very, very nice as it 1) fails to distract and 2) offsets the candy colors nicely. Reading your comments is interesting because it's neat to hear what you had to do to get the background like that.

Not lived up to potential:
I really felt that if you had used less colors it would have been a stronger image. Red orange yellow green light blue dark blue purple. That way it would have said "rainbow" in a stronger fashion to me. Fewer candies would also have let you get closer so we could better see the nice texture.

I think that this is a very lovely image. Nicely composed, and nice colors.

Possibly what hurt you was the fact that people were looking for a more "cohesive" rainbow. Your colors aren't all in one place. You have the rainbow from the prism but that doesn't show the purple... there is purple at the top so I felt it met the challenge, but possibly other people did not think so.

In addition, the harsh leaf shadow is a bit distracting.

Reading your comments is interesting, because of the edits you did. I think you did a great job for not doing anything too advanced. I wouldn't really change much about this if I were doing it with more advanced edits. So you should be proud for creating a lovely image with less editing. Not that there is anything wrong with editing, but sometimes it's nice to know that this was closer to how the camera saw it.

Well, it certainly was nice seeing real rainbows in the Rainbow challenge. The non-rainbows were okay for sure, but every time I came across a real rainbow it was nice. So, awesome for you for getting a capture of a real rainbow.

I think what really hurt the image was the overall grayness. The dirt looks nice, but the sky is just so bland. Like mentioned before, if you had cropped on the top, I feel that this would have been a stronger image. Also, maybe a levels or curves adjustment would have helped.

Coming across this in voting I was just struck by the concept here. Your title was very nice in conveying your message, and the image just brought out some emotion in me. I thought of droughts and people not having enough water, and rainbows and hope. So even though your image is not as strong, technically, as it could be, I applaud it overall.
