Maybe you would have benefited (specifically for the sky challenge) from just going outside and shooting the same thing without the Christmas wreath? It's a nice idea, I think, but it seems to sit in the way of the sky without adding much to the shot, probably because of the lack of focus. You'd have needed a much wider DOF to make it work.

This is a good feature-filled sky. There looks to be noise at the top 1/4 of the image that distracts a little bit.
