Zaandam_05by hajekaComment: Locks are cool. We have three within about 25 miles, on the local river. I guess that this one must still be in operation if they are wanting to upgrade it. |

Freebird! by vawendyComment: Go Wendy! Meeting you and your family was a big treat for me. I knew that you would enjoy the wildlife and birds here.
Beautiful capture of this egret. The light and focus were perfect. |

Green-Heronby EnlightenedComment: Green Herons are very pretty when the sun hits them from the right angle. Most of their feathers are iridescent and the pattern on their wings makes for good photos.
This one seems pretty tame. They usually like to sort of hide in the brush or back in the trees. Nice catch!

Osprey-Familyby EnlightenedComment: Very nice! Great lighting and processing with this one. Good detail everywhere, and it has the Florida sky in the BG.

double crested cormorantby EnlightenedComment: Yes, I agree with the Anhinga group. They are quite a show when they spread their wings to dry out, with all the black and white alternating banding of feathers.
The top of the Cormorant's beak is hooked at the end. The Anhinga fishes by spearing the fish underwater, the Cormorant by grabbing the fish in it's beak underwater. |

Cattle Egret Roostby EnlightenedComment: It looks like you have visited my part of the world recently. Airboating is a great way to see wildlife, but as you said, you have to be ready if you want photos while underway.
There are a couple of egret roosts within 15 miles of where I live, and it's been interesting to photograph them with their eggs and babies over the last couple of weeks. Vawendy was here with her family the 4th and 5th and we had a great time out shooting this area. |
