When I was in college, I took a Film as Literature class. In it, the prof talked about strategies used by filmmakers to build tension, especially in horror flicks or dramas. One of them was to use a narrow passage and light it with yellow and/or red. This is what this shot reminds me of. The blue slither gives just a little bit of hope, but it feels like the bad guy will jump out at any minute.
