I like this picture - the focus is sharp and there is nice contrast between the dark and light areas. The scene, though showing urban decay, doesn't really say "desolation" to me.

I don't like the composition. The vertical ramp on the top of the picture distracts. Your eyes are drawn up and back at the same time. Too busy for the eyes. Cropping either the top of the picture or the bottom of the picture would improve the the composition. If you crop the bottom and look at the ramp it actual looks really nice. A lot of good shapes.
