I like the idea, and the look on the face, but the harsh shadows and the wood behind are distracting. I think open shade might have done much better for you. :)

Well-lit eyes would have been nice. Not bad though, I like the crop.

Comment by EOSail:
The subject is too centered and there's too much room, especially on the right side (since he's facing to our left). The midday sun leaves harsh and uneven shadows.

As far as portrait photography goes, this little guy has one very bright nose, while the rest of his face is mostly in shadow. It isn't the most flattering of lighting choices, but it makes it look more like a snapshot taken by chance than an intentionally shot photograph. His cookie is somewhat insignificant in this cropping. If it was cropped down to the cookie, the hands, and the lips, the lighting may seem much more appropriate with the focus going primarily on the cookie and hands.

This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".

What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.

So, where does this leave me with your image?

Nice take on the challenge. I think this could be a bit strong with a much tighter cropping, though. Look at it with a third off the top and a third off the right - you're left with the glare and the cookie and no wasted space.

Voted earlier coming back to comment.

That is one possessive glare:-) The angry look along with the title makes this shot. You have some good detail and clarity. However the biggest weakness that prevents this shot from being a great shot is the lighting. Harsh lighting on the hair resulting in blown highlights in some spots and deep shadows under the eyes, on the hands and under the neck. If the outdoor lighting was taken in a shady area where the light was evenly spread out to illuminate the boy it would greatly improve this portrait. A very small critique I have is that you give the audience very little 'hope' of getting a bite if the cookie is more than half gone:-) I think the composition would be better if you captured this after just one bite gone...it would be much more likely one would ask to have some after the first bite and is welcomed by that glare that states "go find your own!"

Very crisp and clear... and the title fits perfectly.

I would have liked to have seen a bit of cooking in, or around, his mouth to make it a bit more realistic. But a good picture, nonetheless.
