This one doesn't look over-exposed to me - well maybe there's a bit of loss of detail in the top of the head but I can't really see. I hate when I have my settings wrong for an entire shoot - as I did with the snow geese recently. Each time I swear I'll remember next time and then something else "goes wrong" LOL I think pelicans are such funny guys - especially when they open those big mouths! Nice shot.

I think your other comments are quite on the mark. For myself, my main impression is that you're trying to convey too much in one photo. The landscape, the river, the road, the leaves at top. I find it all a bit overwhelming. But, on the other hand, I have no idea how to handle a situation like this one. I do like this place though, it is beautiful.
