It's a nice shot. I didn't vote on this challenge, but I do think the "missed" focus probably distracted some voters.

Focus has a tendency to direct the eyes movements, and in this shot it causes the eye to move across the ear which is not really the subject of the picture. Still a nice candid, but I'd definitely think the focus is responsible for the finishing.

Yeah. I think just a bit more sharpness would have been nice. Perhaps a tighter crop on the left to the dark bar. Although I really like the crop.
But the lens flare probably hit it more. Although I really like its place in this image.

Underappreciated to heck! He looks like he's gonna run over to his left and cause some mischief! :-)

I like the contrast of the light swans on the dark water. At first the angle bothered me, but it's growing on me. Adds a nice diagonal. Nicely done
