Hello from the Critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge

What a lovely old structure that pier is though I'm not sure I would feel too safe in the building! I am intrigued why you seem to have so much noise with such a low setting? I like the combination of near mono together with the muted colours of the building. I think the composition could have been improved by reducing the foreground in favour of the sky which has some interesting detail and texture in it and it would also remove the foreground detail I find rather distracting. The mast is so close to the left edge it should either have more room or have been cropped out. At the other edge the distant beacon is a little too close to the right edge, I think the whole composition would have benefited from a small move to the right.

A respectable result in such a demanding challenge, well done, thank you for your entry.

very interesting building. Unfortunately the wow-factor is missing... maybe a bolder crop would have helped a little since the foreground with the little wave is somewhat distracting. 2/3 of the pier would have been sufficient too to give the right impression of the surrounding. A more dramatic sky would have helped too but none of us is able to change weather conditions, right?

Hello from the Critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge

It certainly fulfils the challenge brief isolated against the plain sky as it is. There appears to be a lot less detail in the bird than I would have expected, it looks as though its been cropped from a much larger image although the lens suggests that this is not the case? There is a lot of noise in the image which is, I suspect, why it has not been as well received by your voters as perhaps you would have expected. I wonder why you used such a small aperture I would have thought f8 would have sufficed which would have enabled you to shoot it at ISO 400 for a much less noisy image. Also as the bird was soaring a slower shutter speed at about 1/1000 would also have sufficed again easing the ISO/noise problem further.

I think there is a strong argument for significantly increasing the brightness of the sky to raise it to a high key alternative.

As for the bird, I'm probably wrong but it looks like a herring gull to me. Sorry you didn't receive any comments during the challenge, I hope this makes up for it. Thank you for your entry.

Hello from the Critique club

A very appealing image that meets the challenge well

I like the bold colours and the simplicity of it all but the real appeal is in the reflections they are what makes the image work so well. The shapes of the reflections are so intriguing and effective and the colours interspersed with flashes of mirror-like reflections amongst them adds to it. Your composition is good but I sort of feel I'd like to see a little more of the object especially against the left side of the frame which has the patch of orange as opposed to a uniform red wall.

I like your image I voted it 7 during the challenge and it has been well received by the voters in what was a very strong challenge, thanks you for your lovely entry

I like the red light. Ordinary objects seem extraordinary, even magical, when photographed & PP just so.
