This image has a combination of issues without a counterbalance of positive qualities. On the positive side, the point of view is different, the subject is colorful and different (with the rim around the bottom, it almost looks more like a pot than a cup, and it is being used to hold writing implements rather than a beverage or a plant - so one is left wondering exactly what it is - and its context doesn't really give away the answer).
To me, the biggest issue is the background - especially on the right side of the picture (which is even worse because the pencil points to it). What is in the background is critical to an image - either supporting your main subject or detracting from it.
Second issue is the lighting - not sure I can figure out what is going on there, but it looks like the light is coming from the top left, but the left side of the glass is dark while the inside right side of the glass is almost too well lit. To me, this makes the left side of the image dark, pushing the viewer's attention away from it (and, following the pencil, to the distracting background on the right edge).
The third issue is that the image is not in focus. Images can be deliberately blurred, and that is a potential for this image. But, it doesn't seem like it. Depth of field is a critical choice, but generally some part of the image should be obviously in focus.
I think you have shown great creativity by "seeing" this picture in an ordinary every-day setting, and capturing it. Technique can be taught - the ability to "see" a picture, not so much...

Is this really glass? For me, the angle is awkward. It's also difficult to see what's in focus.
