Bummer about the DQ. DPC takes their rule sets very seriously.
On your profile page, you have the option to watermark your image with a copyright after voting, so it really isn't necessary on the image itself.
Voting is intended to be based on the image alone, and not influenced by who the photographer is - a copyright notice kind-of circumvents that.
Don't be discouraged. Enter often. Comment on others' images a lot. This is a great place to learn and grow.

This looks very flat overall and I don't see the shadows theme at all.
