An interesting image that fails to meet the challenge
I'm not sure that this fits the challenge it doesn't suggest curiosity to me but I am making a guess that you are inviting people to peep into another world here and by implication arouse or sate their curiosity in doing so. If that is a correct assumption I suppose it fits the challenge in an obscure sort of way. But to me the image doesn't invoke or instil a feeling of curiosity in itself.
I suppose my negativity about the image fulfilling the challenge brief is because this feels very much like a model village, it just has a very unreal feel to it. The image is certainly unique in the respect I've never seen anything like it before but I just sort of feel – why?
I'm intrigued by the strange ISO number? You have a good DOF throughout, the softness in the topmost arch is irrelevant and doesn't impact the rest of the image which is nice and sharp. Any distortion inevitable from such a wide angle lens is very pleasing and adds to the end result.
I quite like the image itself but I probably would have scored it midway for the reasons already discussed above, thanks for your submission, Sid |

Work In Progressby Dr.ConfuserComment by sidpixel: *Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*
An eye-catching image for the FS study
It is certainly a very strident image with punchy colours that cannot fail to grab your attention. There are some very clean steel components of which I like the vivid blue interiors. The composition is a little cluttered but generally acceptable.
I don't like the blown highlights or the processing especially the fuzzy vignette for me it spoils the whole image but as you say, its not going to appeal to all but if it serves its purpose which it certainly has for you then it has worked.
Thanks, Sid |

Unbearable Lightnessby Dr.ConfuserComment by sidpixel: *Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*
A somewhat appealing image that meets the challenge.
The artificial light has, I assume, come from the onboard flash of the camera? I like the shallow DOF, I like the dark background, I like the shapes and composition in general. What I am not keen on is the inevitable hotspots of overblown highlights that very often result from this type of shot using on-camera flash, it rarely gives the sort of results I am after but you have used it for the purpose of this challenge.
I like the detail of the fibres with the OOF elements against the dark background it makes the image a little more intriguing. Thanks for your submission, Sid |

Blessing or Curseby Dr.ConfuserComment by sidpixel: *Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*
A pleasing study of a controversial energy source.
As your title suggests they are loved and loathed in equal measure but that is not really what I want to discuss here, your image itself is of far more interest than the subject.
This image is a good illustration of the importance of light, good lighting is the essential ingredient for photography, its what separates the lacklustre image from the wow image. As a direct result of good lighting this is a wow image! I love the way the light is emphasising the rough nature of the terrain, this will only happen like this when the sun is at the right angle. That same light is really picking out the whites of the turbines making them really stand out. The background is darker and duller as a result of the light and atmospherics which again forms a contrasting backdrop to the whole image.
The composition is good with a good balance between the foreground, subject and background. The turbines themselves are on a pleasing diagonal which is always a strength compositionally. Personally speaking, I can't see anything that I would have done differently, you've captured the scene perfectly.
It's a shame your image didn't score higher but I suppose there may be those who felt strongly enough against the subject that it affected their better judgement anyway, thanks for a great submission, Sid |

Rainbow at 10,000 Feetby Dr.ConfuserComment by sidpixel: *Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*
A rather dull image that partially meets the challenge.
There's no denying that your position is high and therefore from above in terms of altitude but the cloud has obscured the view that would have given us the scene that enables us to experience being above within the context of the frame. As it is, we do not have a strong focal point and I agree with your commenter that the blue of the distant sky draws us away from the feint arc of subdued colour we have in the foreground.
You have a surprisingly large DOF given your choice of maximum aperture, I assume you were at the 24mm end of your lens. It's very unfortunate after all that effort you put into choosing and driving out to and scaling this location only to have the weather conditions working against you as they have here, but there's nothing you can do about it. Anyway, thanks for your submission, Sid |

On Many Levelsby Dr.ConfuserComment by Catherine_B: Aren't you glad you reshot it in JPEG? I knew this would do well because it fit the topic so nicely, and was a technically great shot. Congrats on the top 10 photo! |

On Many Levelsby Dr.ConfuserComment by sidpixel: *Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*
An excellent entry fully deserving of the appreciative score and comments that meets the challenge very well.
I'm sorry the image caused you so much hassle but it was well worth all the effort. It's difficult to conceive of a more suitable entry especially at the angle you have chosen too. It makes for fascinating viewing with so much detail to absorb.
Technically it has been very well executed with good DOF and sharpness throughout. What would have been a horrible bland and boring sky is working to your advantage in its uniformity.
The only thing that has been confusing me is the distant horizon through the bridge supports, I assumed it was the ocean but there appears to be a significant dip which looked most odd but when I look at the same horizon outside the bridge the small section there looks lower so I assume its not water but land which would answer my original confusion.
You've done an excellent job well done, Sid |
