Shopping Cartby DonatienComment by faidoi: Incredible depth of field makes this composition very interesting. Love the textures on the ground. Makes you feel like your down there. Very clear view of the wheel. "9" |

Egg Brokenby DonatienComment by Donatien: Originally posted by pcody: Too bad about that iso choice. The stand the whole egg is on looks as if it could be part of the slimy part of the broken egg. The line in the background could be cloned out or extended to become more intrical to the composition. Maybe back up a bit to include the full reflection of the broken egg's yoke in the frame? |
Thank you for your thoughts. I agree of course on the ISO part, but as I tried to explain, it was chosen on purpose in order to try the camera out. Had I known that the shot actually would be this interesting in the end, I'd taken several more while the egg still was remaining on the glass. As it was now it was dished away ánd I couldn't go through the effort of cracking a new one. The "stand" as you call it, really is olive oil. Wanted something a little sticky, a little shiny, and as a bonus got a nice green tone. The line helps the picture I think, I removed it, but it didn't win anything on it. Agree that it could be more dominant / long, but it wasn't in the original and I didn't want to use the clone on this one. Same thing for the shadow being all-in. I have that in another (blurry) shot, but it sure doesn't add to the composition in my opinion, it looks nearly PS-mirrored. So the cropped shadow is there on purpose too. I'll try to recreate this again, with ISO 200 some day when I'm really bored. It did take a wihle to get it right.
Again, thanks for your input. |

Egg Brokenby DonatienComment by pcody: Too bad about that iso choice. I like this one better that the other one. The stand the whole egg is on looks as if it could be part of the slimy part of the broken egg. The lighting adds to the depth of the picture. The line in the background could be cloned out or extended to become more intrical to the composition. Maybe back up a bit to include the full reflection of the broken egg's yoke in the frame? All in all, I think it would be worth the effort to reshoot this at a lower iso.

Egg Soloby DonatienComment by Donatien: The high ISO was because I wanted to give it a try. I had the camera on a Tripod so I could have, and in retrospect wish that I'd taken some complementary pictures at lower ISO as well.
It was after reading all the comments about the D70 not going down to ISO100 (like the Rebel does) that I wanted to see what kind of grain we were talking about. Figured if I could take a decent shot at 1600, I could do a good one at 200. I feel this one came out decent, the rest I still have to prove :-)
Doing an egg was kinda cheating since it contains natural "grain" in the texture, and on the one with yellows in it, I did apply some gaussian blur in the yellow. But this is DP, so I figured it'd be ok.. |
