Didn't I just see an hourglass win the Time Passing challenge? This seems like pandering. ;-) Nice shot, but the candle should have been farther back and / or cropped out. It's too harsh.

I am struck by the golden hue of this image. At first glance it is powerful almost majestic, then my eye is drawn away by the flame and it's reflection off the glass. The brushed metal is well defined, lit and focused, but just below, the platform or support seems very out of place and the backlighting has cast shadows in the foreground supports that detract from the whole. A slightly tigher crop, less backlight and a small amount more of foreground lighting would bring it all into balance. I find the DOF very solid and the focus on the sandcatch excellent. There is no doubt that this is a low tech item.

outstanding lighting, excellent contrast, thoughful and decisive composition. The highlights are a bit blown out, and it looks like you've sharpened the image quite a bit perhaps to compensate for a slight out-of-focus condition.
