Ornamentsby scottaubComment by deapee: Greetings from the Critique Club...
This is a very interesting shot -- there's a lot going on here, possibly too much. My eyes wander around and although the focus is obviously on that airplane, your depth of field could be a little lower to bring the focus to it even more -- the focus on the airplane does seem a bit soft however.
While this shot definately displays what I would consider a 'classy holiday decoration', I can't help but feel your scorring could have been improved had more focus been on the plain either by the above example or possibly by a tighter crop on the subject.
That being said, your lighting is good and your white balance seems spot on. The image is very clear and the color depth probably very closely resembles what was really there -- so in that respect, it's awesome.
This was a tough challenge to shoot for and even tougher voting for because most people just find everything about Christmas decorations to be tacky. Either way, good job -- and keep shooting! |

Shades of Yellowby scottaubComment by whagerbaumer: Well done. Overexposure or fuzziness would have been real easy here, and you avoided both. It however, is not the most compelling of images. A 7. |

Low Tech Flyerby scottaubComment by Arcanist: The angle, dof, implied motion, shading and coloration all seem to work so well for this shot. I can't fold a plane anywhere near as perfectly as you made this one, so an extra point just for that. Good crop, just enough sharpness, even the shape and placement of the tree behind adds to the composition. There is no obstacle to seeing the link to technology and this is very low tech. Only thing I can see and it is pickiness is that the tree's blurring has that hypnotic zig-zag effect on my eyes, perhaps a bit more or less or a darkening of the background to lessen my dizziness. ;-) |
