I actually think this is a good choice of subject and a well exposed/composed photo with just two major things letting it down - the finger in the bottom left and the crooked horizon!

Don't give up, I look forward to seeing you in future contests. For what it's worth I think this would have gotten at least a 6 fixing these two minor issues so be careful next time!

This did not deserve to finish bottom, and whilst I didn't rate it too highly the subject is good. I feel it's the composition that let it down, far too close. And then when the eye wanders the horizon is off. Try revisiting the scene if possible and either completely obscuring the background using an f2.8 or similar or composing in a way that isolates the flower more.
