Nice job in using Bokeh, it compliments the foreground. The coffee cup looks a bit out of focus. The pole does remind me of Venice, 7

Hi Eric,

Greetings from the Critique Club...

Congrats on your personal best with a top half finish. Clearly meets the challenge in "Hidden Faces"

I agree with your decision to rotate the frame so the face is clear to the voters -- even though it gives an off-balance sense with the other items in the frame. Good sense of fun as well.

While the photo meets the challenge well, it needs to be stronger compositionally and lighting wise to keep my interest outside of a challenge.

Please pm me with any questions or comments. I hope this was helpful

Regards,
Theresa

This is a good image technically, but emotively, it doesn't really do it for me. 5

Memories of working on the fishing docks here, gawd what a smell. We all appreciate your DOF being as shallow as it was as the red left portion would not have been a pleasant addition to the rest. I have a hard time considering this candid, although it very well may have been taken discreetly, the image holds absolutely no emotion or revelation that a candid should.

Your target is almost exactly centered and would have been a bit more interesting if cropped so as to be in the lower left third. It is not an overly appealing subject and unfortunately falls flat to this viewer. The abundance of goo and vital liquids pushes it in to the realm of nasty (but in a good way, not like the picture sux).

I offer a 2 for this image. While a good capture for some uses, it does not seem to fit the challenge.

Nice to see a cnadid without a face or a body. Pity both hands aren't sharp., and that we can't see a tad more of the upper (knife) hand.

Comment by swagman:
The element that stands out strongest is Meg's fingers, which I find distracting. It would be nice to see Meg's face, as her name is in the title, so I think she should have as much exposure as Scrappy. Another distracting element that stands out is Meg's nose, in sharpeer focus than her cheek, and it's placed in a position of prominence in the fame.

Scrappy's head stands out nicely against the blurred should, but I think some color contrast correction are necessary to make Scrappy's fur stand out.

The amount of unfocussed, blank wall on the left gives this an unbalanced feel, for me. Perhaps crop this to a portrait layout by editing out all but a sliver of that wall?

I'm sorry to be blunt, but this basically has the feel of a hastily composed snapshot.
