Nana's Crocheted Bedspread, cir. 1945by YoungerComment by Prof_Fate: Lots to like, but the thimble is too centered - it seems that is what you want me to focus on, when the title tells me bedspread. move it to the dark spot on the lower right would be an improvement. |

Nana's Crocheted Bedspread, cir. 1945by YoungerComment by macrothing: 4 - In my opinion you 'lost points' with the elaboration, just the year would suffice and as I read the Challenge ('should be'). Criticism; I like what you have chosen to shoot here but would like to see more of the little 'book'(?) to add more 'feel' to this photo. Perhaps even b/w or sepia but yes I know the Coke thimble might get lost a little. With just the title, likely a 7 from me (as a photo of this put into said year time capsule, would depict the era for future generations, not to mention these subjects would likely would fit into a time capsule as they are). edit:typos Message edited by author 2005-08-21 20:31:12. |

Nana's Crocheted Bedspread, cir. 1945by YoungerComment by CLarson557: This reminds me of my great-grandmother and the crochet work that I remember her working when I was little. The thing that bothers me in the photo is the thimble. Out of place since I have not known anyone using a thimble when crocheting. Otherwise, excellent work with beautiful lighting and detail. |

Champagne Wishesby YoungerComment by beaflies: Wow mom, top ten on your first submission! Not surprized but, cool! Congratulations!!
Really creative problem solving to get the champagn and suspended motion look and the lighting. Too bad not a member challenge so you could darken the base of the glass. I really like the satin, elegant and different from the typical black.
Nice work! |

Champagne Wishesby YoungerComment by Younger: Wow! I'm really happy that this did so well. Thanks to all for the supportive comments.
This was not a lucky shot as several believe. The ring is placed exactly where I wanted it using a nylon 'string' to suspend it in the glass. I tried to get the liquid to look like Champagne, by using 7-Up, but the bubbles stuck to the ring. The liquid is water (wishing to be Champagne).
The air bubles help to hide the 'string'. I waited until night to avoid reflections on the glass and lit the ring with a flashlight from above. I had to try over 100 exposures to get what I wanted. The background is a cream colored Satin pillow case. |

Champagne Wishesby YoungerComment by Westmo: The only distracting thing is the bright dash at the bottom of the glass that's rising upwards. I gave it a 10 nonetheless! Amazing. |
