I love the smokey battlefield and the clusters of soldiers in the foreground and the background. With all the haze though, the soldiers don't stand out quite as much as I'd like.. Maybe playing with the contrast and levels could fix that.

Also a shot of just the people in the foreground that are in the center of the shot (with the guy leaning over talking to the people walking by, and the guy on the end of their group with the flag) would have been cool too. That moment is what really draws me in to this shot.

The centered tree is almost symbolic to provide the "division" that existed between the two sides. A very good moody picture - the mist/smoke really enhances this.
