Love your idea, but the composition went a little flat. Several separate areas of interest. Maybe zooming in on the coffee pot would simplify the photo and bring full focus to the star!! :)

Good idea for challenge. I think this shot is just a bit too cluttered. There are too many unimportant items in the picture. Maybe a more creative shot of just the cofee pot would have worked well.

I always think of my coffee when I think of beginnings.

I think this could be improved by not using a flash (to eliminate the shadows and take away the "snapshot" feeling); moving the main subject off center; and cropping the distracting wall hanging out on the left side. The flash reflection on the carafe is very not good!

The concept was good.

Very true. I think an off center composition would help this. The direct flash creates a slightly distracting shadow along the edge.

Interesting thought. The extra items certainly fill in the thought, but perhaps detract by drawing the eye away from the focal point?

A little more artful arrangement of the items, and more interesting lighting would have improved this a lot. It looks like you just staggered into the kitchen and took a snapshot using the flash attached to the camera. (I think it's the worst invention in the history of photography)
Morning coffee was a good idea for the challenge.

I'm not saying you agree with me, but indoor photographs without some unique lighting or angle are boring.
