This is bordering on offensive for those that have suffered horrific injuries.

Imagine the doctor uttering these words about one of your children: "I'm sorry sir, but due to the injuries your child has received, he is going to be a vegetable for the rest of his life."

I understand your attempt at humour, but you need to consider the feelings of those with handicap members of family.
