A nice shot for someone starting out. To make this really stand out, the shot needs to be very sharp somewhere in the shot. The bottom of the shot looks like it should be cropped out, perhaps a tighter crop in general on the flower would work better while keeping the negative space on the right. The greens work well, effective dof. In general though, a flower shot has to be amazing to really stand out in a DPC challenge, there are a lot of flower shots on this site!

I think that maybe the idea in your head was much better than this... It's okay Mine ALWAYS is, haha it happens to us all. Try playing around with the burn tool and see what it gets ya. perfectly purple... the color is so perfect but I wish the clarity was too. it looks a bit out of focus.

I think you almost need a wider DOF to capture more detail in the flower petal, unless you truely wanted the focus to be solely on the stamen?
