I think you're on to something here. Black and white is very nice here. I like the blown out background since it helps keep your focus on the grasshopper. you've got great detail and his tone is on spot. I'm not sure about the little frame, part of me wants to hate it but I don't know why, it is suttle and clean so I'm not sure what my problem is. I think you're off to a good start.

Did you use that cameras full 10x zoom? Couldn't believe they put that in the small point and shoots but not the later models like my 5050z :(

He is a bit close to the frame, either that or the frame is too big.
Nice balance and tones, though there is possably a bit too much negative white space.

I don't really care for bugs only because I am sqemish and hate any bug. But the image is great you have nice composition. Focus is spot on. Nice detail in the bug. and that border which I usually don't care for is very well done also.
