Thanks for the comments. It wasn't quite the pose I wanted from Max, but he was quite skittish in front of the camera, and this was about the only shot I got of him sitting still.

So for those who thought he looked odd or scared, he was. He was a stray who's had a tough life, so he still gets pretty nervous around people - the camera really intimidated him.

Still, I think this photo captured his gorgeous chocolate colour nicely. He's quite an attractive dog.

Lenny D: I know what you mean - the nose does look out of proportion - but I think that's mainly due the the angle, and the fact that he has a big nose. I doubt it's distortion from the lens, since it was a 50mm prime.

L()L classic, I love it. I think maybe if the big pile in the forground was to the side more and not centered, it would have made for a much stronger composition.
