I think you did a great job conveying the message here, and you might very well have gotten some low votes because of it.

I like the choice of the diagonal composition. I think the texture of the hand is a bit strong, it jumped out at me. I'm not a fan of the foreground blur, I wish the full hand was in focus. Given the choice, I would rather have seen the nails out of focus. Speaking of which, they aren't very believable - larger ones or better yet, spikes, would have helped sell the image.

If I had voted in this challenge, I would have given this a 6 because I thought it met the challenge very well.

Great little kid, well caught and beautifully placed in the frame.

I don't know why this scored so low. The kid has an exuberant funny expression, the red hair was captured well, and the standing up 'cowlick' against the black background works just fine.

My only problem is with the choice you made in a border/frame. that heavy black competes strongly with the boy for attention. I'm not sure you meant for that to happen. But as soon as I zero in to look at the detail within the picture, I am drawn back out to the heaviness surrounding it.

That's about the only thing I can think of for a low score on this pleasant image. I hope he is someone close to you so you can watch this young fellow grow up and perhaps record more good pictures of him.
