Getting closer---the Engine looming over you like a huge yellow giant would have worked out really great here.

Comment by Lance:
Like the photo its very good but is crying out for a bit of selective manipulation lightening the train and tracks losing the buildings in the background and it would be stunning

I like the idea, but the sihouette detracts from the yellow subject.

Melissa, I don't like to be mean, but I won't have much good to say about this photo. I know you are capable of better, because I went to your profile. Maybe you were in a hurry and didn't have anything to submit, so you submitted this out of desperation? There is no real subject to speak of in this photo. There are traffic lights, and a very small "no left turn" sign, but they don't really grab a viewer, they don't command ones attention. The title seems all too fitting, and not in a good sense. The title should say something about the subject, our subject was supposed to be "Roadsigns", what is chaotic about the signs? I can see how the cars could be perceived as chaotic, but our theme was not "Traffic" or "Cars". I don't know what else to say except to take your time and you can do better next time.

Critique Club critique:

Composition/Content: Good effect tilting the camera. I think the picture would look more natural if you put the cookies on a small plate or something. Good subject.
Lighting: The lighting could be a little stronger to lighten up the image, athough you did a good job of quieting any harsh shadows. With an F2.8 aperature and a 1/30 shutter, the only way to lighten the image is with a stronger light.
Background: The image would look better if you had put the glass and cookies on a piece of posterboard that was curved from the bottom then up the back of the picture to produce no seams.
Camera Work/Technical: You did a good job capturing the pouring milk in the glass. Good focus.
Digital Processing: A little sharpening might have helped the image. I would like to have seen what "Neat Image" would have done to this shot.
My Opinion: Two things, more light and seamless background would have made a big difference in this image. I like the idea and angle. Great subject, cookies and milk.

You do realize that Coke is going to BAN you from ever drinking thier product again? Really great the way you have the wave of the milk curling up in the glass.

I'm not sure if making this a diagonal shot helped this. The lighting is a little flat, great composition though.

Is the street leaning to the left? Hard to tell. Not sure what is the focus of this shot. Of course the title tells me you already know that. hehe

Is that fog or smog? If this were taken on a really clear day with a pretty blue sky and white, fluffy clouds then I bet your score woulda been much better. That bit of blue in the middle of the sky is a wonderful color. It really is an awesome view. My biggest complaint is that it's just too little to view well. I do like the panorama but not at the expense of being able to see what is in the shot.

Haha! Why is it going into a Coke glass? The posterboard line is a little distracting and it seems a little dark on my screen... the shadows from the pitcher maybe?
