Layers (vertically and horizontally), lines, textures, cool, muted tones. They all come together impressively. I like the disjointed rhythm in the fence panels, and the single bird taking flight (or is he landing?). Incredible. A nine for you.

Is this a bit too dead center, I mean, you must ask yourself that. I love the contrast shape, serenity and zen of the form, but it seems to lack that final je ne sais quoi. (Still its superb amongst a field of technically proficient but absent of theme shots.)

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: This is an unusual composition with bold use of negative space, I like the contrast and the coloration too. The one gull with the stretched-out wings offers an effective anchor for the eye to wander from.

Critical stuff: Not much - intrinsic interest in the scene is on the low side but I do like what you've done with it,

Overall: A very nice Free Study offering.

There's a big fat dustspot on the upper left corner that I can't stop staring at that could have been cloned out.
I like the shot though. Very simple. Nice textures on the fence.
