there is an halo around the peoples (I think that the halo is for the post) and there is a white line in the middle that is distracting. as personal idea the black area on the lower side is too big.

The lighting is beautiful. Sure, I think a little light coming in behind the subject would help define his shape more, but the face and eyes really carry all the weight in the photo.
Somehow, I imagine him with a notebook in front of him. A scientist on the road to a discovery. It reminds me of a photo that would have been seen in "Life" during the 50's.
