I think this would have been stronger if it had been stopped down for more DOF. It's not like trying to isolate a single flower form a background. This is more like showing how a part is related to the whole. Good concept, lighting and tonality though.

I like the purple in the out of focus area to the right of the subject (rose), but I think it is a bit too much negative space. A tighter crop would enhance the subject but then you would lose the purple bokeh. I think the shot may have come off a little better if you had a different shooting angle that would allow for the tighter crop and still have th purple above/around the rose.
