Edge of Timeby jackal9Comment by posthumous: from blurgeois pedagogues:
sometimes we want to remember: blur helps us do that. by blurring the street and the trees, they become the street of a past time. The green is now a field of corn from which the child that was you has eaten. The street leads to a dentist, bad, but afterwards you go to Rita's for a chocolate ice cream shake, good, and Dad tells you about making ice cream from trees and snow. and you believe him. blur helps you believe. Wall Cloudby jackal9Comment by Haneck: Fantastic! I love what the light does to the stubbly textures of the field! It's sort of glowing with golden light. Dramatic and beautiful. |

Tree-Sunset.jpgby jackal9Comment by Haneck: I love what you did to the color here... Very neat trees. I love how the branches fade from sharp, defined branches to whispy, blurred twigs. Neat shot! |

Infinityby jackal9Comment by levyj413: Jack, I think you portrayed a repeating visual theme well, but not very, very well, which is why I voted this a 6. I didn't go higher because I didn't find that much visually interesting beyond the basic.
Shallow DOF is a nice effect, but it usually has to really deliver something to make a bigger impact, as opposed to being the main point. The question to ask yourself is why the shallow DOF? Did that make the photo better than having them all in focus? In particular, in a challenge where you're trying to show a repeating visual theme, the shallow DOF tends to drive the eye to only one example instead of the repetition.
I do like the orange bits. :) Message edited by author 2007-08-07 00:01:19. |

Streetby jackal9Comment by Bruce_the_Robert: I love how the curve of the lamp holder/arm shows just slightly from the shadows. The light isn't on its own, it's held there, by a close friend, and it returns that favor by casting a gentle glow on the arm. |
