These birds are very tough to photograph. To balance between the dark background and the white feathers is most difficult. Unfortunately you picked (had to pick) a time when the sun was up very high, creating this high contrast situation. Unless you correct your camera by underexposing, the camera will think it's a dark picture and expose to the background, blowing out the whites in the bird.

The picture should have been rotated clockwise some. The boats aren't well lit enough to say that they frame the picture. Nothing in the picture is acting as a focus for your eye, so it is too flat. The lack of detail didn't need to be. You only used 31.87 KB (32631 bytes) of the available 200KB for this challenge.

Way too dark and too much dead space. Maybe use a more extreme angle to make it explode. And expose it more to bring out a subject.

IMO the whole image is a little dark (understandingly since it is a night shot). I do like the lights strung up on the boats though.
