colorcarnival - I think maybe expatdawn got it - maybe the shoes aren't close up enough considering it's a challenge focused on shoes? Maybe that's the reason for the low score?

I agree with you about the negative space, and think maybe something like this would have done better in a challenge like that or "shadows" or something.
