the intersecting lines of the stairs and the railings provide some good interest - but the processing seems almost too muted here - as if higher contrast and a bit more intense lighting

You are correct, that is exactly the illusion I (or perhaps, better, the chameleon) was trying to create, a Southwestern Rock Chameleon photo that "appears" to be a Desert Bighorn Sheep, resting upside down.

That's why these little critters are so elusive and hard to photograph - they can look like just about anything. I've actually got 12 or 13 of them and my portfolio and you'd never know it. ;)
