Jumpby jhess77Comment by Gatorguy: Hi, Critique Club here....
Boy, I read the comments and they are all over the map!
I like the color, I like the composition with the building where it is and I love the action. I also like the rim light you got from your shooting angle.
I personally don't like the lens flare so much, not so much the aperture shapes, but the low contrast area on the right. I think that element hurt the score some.
If I have voted, this would have gotten as 6 from me. Without the flair, probably a 7 or 8. |

Jumpby jhess77Comment by Nadine_Vb: Well done. And the lens flare doesn't bother me at all (although I think that some voters might express the opposite) |

Jumpby jhess77Comment by SoulJance: nice dynamic shot. I think that you have tried to fit in everything whereas perhaps it would be a stronger image if you got closer to the kids. I also don't know about the colour of the mono conversion |

Jumpby jhess77Comment by Ja-9: for me your tones are quite flat and dull, it seems that this has such potential |

Jumpby jhess77Comment by bmartuch: This is excellent. The only thing that bothers me is the lens flare. Outstanding processing. 8 |

Cycling Helmetby jhess77Comment by see: Greetings from the Critique Club.
Hello Joshua, Iâm Alan.
First on your subject, spot on focus, and I like the B&W treatment. Looking at your bicyclist I feel the exhaustion. Truth be told when you reach the upper 5âs with this tough crowd, âyour almost thereâ in the photography world. âAlmostâ being the key word, your âalmostâ was in the rest of the story, the why. If the water was just on the face (sweat) I could buy into the background, but in this the helmet and glasses are also wet and I wonder why, the sterile background gives no indication, you have a great subject, but no story.
With the Olympics currently running, and with your great subject, filling in the rest of the story would have pushed you into the 6.5+ range, if not on the front page.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
