The focus is too centered on the branch instead of the animal. Also, with a bit less flash exposure, some of the colors and contrast would come out a bit more.

Good idea done in a somewhat average fashion.
Your composition and lighting are good.
Color seems a bit flat and plastic (of course they are plastic), but they lack the vividness of the 'pink asile' Perhaps WB adjustment would help.
I know how tough it is when you use one piece of cloth for background and also covering your table, but the wrinkles are a big problem here. Either try to get the backdrop further behind your subject or iron your sheet.
Also a shallower DOF would help. 5
