Shambles

The Shambles is the prettiest street in the heart of medieval York so it seemed appropriate to use the name as a title. For about 15 minutes a day the sun shines directly down it providing dramatic strong lighting.

Genuine self-portrait using my new off-board flash to balance the strong backlight (who says you don't need good kit to get good results?). I had a better shot but I really love the natural golden hue from the winter sun in this shot.

Very interesting processing on the truck. I think I recognise the same processing on a photo in the 'Self portrait in a crowd' challenge.

I don't get the feeling that the truck is moving and causing the blur, more like the camera has moved.

Great fun feel; possibly lose some of the top of the shot.

Would have been great for the 'self-portrait in a crowd' challenge too.

Good points: Love the idea and the depth of the black background.

Less-good points: The composition is a little centred for me; I think the strawberry would be best placed on the left of the crop with a long spoon accentuating it. More sugar would have enhanced the 'waterfall' effect.
