There is a lot going on here. If this was not a challenge on rust, I would have thought the background was just red paint.

I don't think this was the challenge to enter a B&W image. One of the main attributes of rust is the red color.

I did some research to try and find out what the reference is here. I'm still not sure. It is a nice picture, but I don't expect it to do well in this challenge. I think that it would have helped to give it a red tint.

Talk about a differential operator! This picture definetly shows the divergence of the gradient, and as such represents the flux density of the gradient flow. Truly harmonic!

I'm guessing you took this picture in the early afternoon. The best lighting would be about 6:30AM to 7:00AM. The light falls on the face of the flowers and is much softer.
