Cigar Smokeby hopperComment: Very creative and effective image of smell, although without title, wouldn't necessarily associate with a cigar. Would be neat to also see the tip of the burning stogie. Excellent shot. |

Hayfeverby keoneComment: Nice shot. I almost took one like this myself because of the immediate association with smell. |

rising ringsby claudiadfComment: Took me awhile to figure out I was seeing onion rings...so it didn't readily suggest a smell to me. Creative shot though. |

Coffee or tea? Both smell goodby deadbirdComment: I can smell the coffee for sure....image could maybe be a bit brighter. The mirror works well for the tea but seems less effective for the coffee. Good idea. |

Blue Spikesby melongrindComment: Great focus on the spikes, beautiful color, and nice blur to background...makes you want to smell the flower. |

Hallowed Groundsby fisheyeComment: Originally posted by amsmyth: Greetings from the Critique Club: This certainly meets the challenge and the image is shot from an more interesting angle than not. The color of the Headstones is mellow and gentled by the light. The sky is kind of washy and it would have been good to use a filter to intensify the tones. The upper right section of the image begins to wash out a bit as well. It is a bit difficult to determine your intent with this image: was it for the serene and time-honored feel or did you mean it to have more intensity? The intensity is just not there for me and yet the marking of the unknown soldier tells me I should have more of a reaction. I do, however, get the sense of peace and tranquility that is marked out by the many tombstnes. Interesting image. |
Thank you for your helpful critique! One of the next things I need to buy is filters. The sky was very overcast, so there wasn't much color there to work with. My intent with this image was to capture the peace of a military cemetary (this was just before Veteran's day), and I felt better about featuring an unkown soldier as opposed to showing a stone with a specific name. I felt a little uncomfortable photographing such a sacred place. Thanks again! Steve |

Thanks, Tom! This is fun. I saw that you figured me out with about 2 minutes to go. Your "Hanging by a Thread" was a cool idea and a great photo! I can see I have a long way to go..... |
