Well it looks like you have studio lighting down pat, so no nits in that department at all! I really like the composition (use of negative space) in this image. I think you would have scored much higher if the model's pose were tweaked just a bit: show her hands, don't hide them, show her eyes even if they're not looking directly at the camera, and watch the details like the folded hem on the jeans and lastly add a reflector to brighten up the dark area under her chin. Those are all minor nits and your image scored deservedly well. Congratulations.

Tell the Truthby bvoiComment: Greeting from the Critique Club.
This is a well-made portrait overall. The lighting style is aaaaaaaaaaalmost Rembrandt-style lighting wich is very flattering. The only nits I see are: 1- the model's pose is a bit uninspiring, even the expression is bland and doesn't evoke emotion as really good portraits will do. 2- the hair dies into the bg, I would avoid this by either adding a hair light or reflector to brighten her hair, or crop a bit tighter to do away with the very dark areas.
It looks like you have a good handle on controlling your lighting (though it does have a yellow cast as mentioned below), with some careful practice on posing you'll have stunning portraits in no time. Keep up the good work. |

BUZZY BEE , Cleared for landingby kiwinickComment: Its a good shot and 60th out of 300 is nothing to scoff at. They can't all win. Seriously, I don't see any "flaws" in your image, apparently it just didn't have the emotional pull that the top shots had. Personally, I think its adorable, but in a challenge full of adorable shots...... you did very well. |

Gazeby ClubJuggleComment: Hi Terry! K - my 2 cents: First - the scratches on the gazing ball are distracting, but not terribly so. I love the way you've camoflauged the camera! The simple fact that you thought about how to hide the camera in the shot tells me you are thinking carefully through your set-up which is a very very good thing. The image is tidy (not a lot of distracting items that don't belong in the image) and the lighting looks very nice. Outside of the challenge, I would be tempted to PS this shot a bit to clean up the corners and scratches. You'd end with a very nice shot! :) |

Lower Desoto Fallsby AriskenComment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB...
I know those falls (I grew up in North Georgia). I do like the silky look of the water, but there is a slight bluish cast to it. That can be corrected by adding yellow or removing blue from your image - there are several methods of doing this. Compositionally I think some foreground interest would give this image the added POP needed to score above 6.0. Overall a nice waterfall shot. |
