Dark side of the sconce(s).by awpollardComment: now this is clever. i like this very much - the way you've warped the impression of scale is particularly impressive - these look for all the world like two modern life-size slightly sci-fi buildings (i know they're wall-mounted luminaires). monochrome works well, and the whole illusion is striking. even the far wall looks like sky. this should at least be top ten, if not a ribbon contender. easy 10. |

Giant Mechanical Pencil?by rcrawfordComment: Is there a ribbon for observational humour? well, there should be, for i found this to be tickingly jolly. the touch of genius is found where the point of the "pencil" touches the power cable lines above. my only reservation is that it's not exactly a beautiful or particularly photogenic subject, and the greys are a bit dull against the dark blue sky (a tweak with brightness / contrast or curves might have added a bit more sparkle). all told, good fun! 7. |

realizationby leafComment: 'kay, i give up. what's the realization? is there a significance behind the number 181? or are you purposely trying to mess with my head? either way, you've madea seemingly simple image interesting from the title, for i have looked and though about the shot / title relationship for an unhealthy amount of time. also, the setting looks very familiar to me - was it you who once submitted a B&W shot of the same room? lighting appears a little bit harsh and details of your subjects face are a bit unclear (though i like how she strikes a pose, if you'll pardon a well-worn madonna-esque expression). it's a pity the exposed brickwork didn't go to the ceiling, as the white wall is distracting (probably messed with your white balance too). this could have been avoided if she came down a couple of levels (though would 139 be so significant?). as for meeting the challenge, i think it does, in a way. it's a bit unusual, i think. 5. |

Any Mail Today?by SammieComment: this is a nice and original idea, well executed too! i might have tried focusing on the post and let the hand be a bit fuzzy... but would then have stuck with what you submitted anyway. it's a nice clever shot, but my nagging doubt is that there might be a bit too much going on. i think i would have played around with similar shots, but maybe with just the hand reaching in or just the face peeking in, and not both. 6. |

The Prudential Building, Buffalo, NYby lwkimagesComment: This is a very photogenic building that you have captured pretty well. However, i felt the viewpoint isn't really unusual enough (a few steps closer might have conveyed a more vertigonous impression) and there is something terribly strange about the sky. i wonder why you chose to do the sky like this? it's a bit off-putting and kind of detracts from the quality of the shot of the building. the colours of the building look like they've been manipulated, but to really good effect, and the symmetry is for want of a better word, glorious. if only something could be done to make the sky a little more natural looking. 6. |

From Down Hereby PedroComment: it's a dalmation horse! notwithstanding my horse phobia (it's the eyes) i do like this quite a lot - the angle of the shot is certainly unusual, so well done! the lighting is a bit off, but i'd imagine that the problem would be compounded by the unusual angle... horse could also do with a shave, he's a bit beardy. anyway, good shot, meets the challenge, scary horse, 6. |

How Big?by osramComment: i would imagine that the angel is quite an awe-inspiring sight, but i would imagine that the angle you've chosen is quite usual for this subject. for something so well known and famous (or at least here in the UK) you might have chosen something a bit different, like from where the little guy up front is standing. having him in the frame though is interesting for the composition (and gives a wonderful display of scale). also the sky is nicely dramatic, and fits the mood very well. technically it's pretty much flawless... |

The Prey's Perspecitve by JoelHSmithComment: FINally! a cat picture with some purpose / relevance to the challenge! well done you! the mouse in a hole point of view is bordering on genius, and i can't imagine how this might be better improved (some mouse furniture maybe, but that's it). the hole to picture ratio is perfect, the focus on the cat technically brilliant... his expression and poise ideal. seriously, this is a 10 and no mistake |

Walking away from the lightby kevrobertsonComment: The faded white border works superbly well against the silhouettes here - such a grand idea... the shot is a bit too grainy i think to work effectively overall, and the bottle of water is kind of distracting. but it's an interesting and original shot, which is rather stylish. i gave it a 7 |

Into a bottles bank!by AlexysComment: How on gods earth did you get this wonderful shot? i can't begin to imagine a) where you got all those bottles and b) how you lit them so brilliantly. this is brilliant - it's, erm, chi is disrupted a little bit by the black disc in the centre (you could have tired cloning that out - i think it wouldn't be a breaking of the rules) but that aside, sheer brilliance. and it's damned unusual in my book. well done - 10 |
