Very nice Nerodia watersnake. These are my favorite snakes down here in Florida. I shoot a lot of Nerodia shots... and they are often, unfortunately, mistaken for the venomous cottonmouths. People kill these guys all the time because they are mistaken. It's a shame, really.

Anyhow, great capture ~ beautiful photograph and subject!

Very nice subject and a great photograph. Black rat snake, right? I absolutely love taking photographs like this. Just great when you get the moment with the snake just right ~

Well done!

LOL ~ I've ende up with a ton of these out takes. I love taking tight snake facial macros... Got a few dozen on my gallery. Tough getting the right balance when the dude's swinging back and forth and flicking his tongue at the lens!

I took this shot of my friend trying to take a macro of a Florida banded watersnake:

Comedy!

Wow, yeah ~ this is a great, unexpected subject! The composition is terrific. There's a kind of sad-but-hanging-on look in the eye, you know? Very interesting and loaded with implied narrative!

Very nice ~ and I agree: underrated.

But still a beautiful snake!!! Garters really are pretty interesting. It's easy to overlook them because they're so common, but they really are neatly patterned.

Good stuff!

Good looking garter snake! I would like to see the larger file ~ maybe whenever you do get around to those files, you can snag it and do a swap? But I totally know the feeling. I cringe when I think of digging out discs and looking for old files!!!

I was bitten by a garter snake once, and my finger swelled up twice its normal size. Turns out aboutu 1% of people have a radically negative reaction to garter snake saliva. LOL. I was briefly and temporarly maimed by a friggin' garter snake...

I'm not sure "cute" comes even close to describing the incredible cuteness of this photo!!! Terrific capture and very nice composition.

I like it a lot!

Iguana

Comment:
Yeah! That's what I'm talking about!

I dig the hell out of this, primarily because of the detail on the face. Iguanas just have "old" looking scales, don't they? With snakes, the scales usually look "new" or fresh. But iguanas just have an ancient feeling to them. This captures that detail beautifully. Warn scales ~ scales with age and history. The contrast draws this out. The eye (which is, on the other hand, youthful) is a great central focus.

I can imagine some people not liking the shallow DOF ~ and perhaps the tight crop, but I like it here. But I'm a sucker for the tight crop and shallow DOF with reptile studies. Works great for me.

Glad you linked it up!!!
