Thanks. I've no idea who the man in deep thought was. He was quite striking, sitting there on his own with crowds and activity going on left and right of him. Gosh, must be nearly three years ago now.

LOL! You're right! Funny how once we get something in our mind, we sometimes cannot see the mistake -- even years later. :)

Title corrected. :)

What happened? Did she lose her key outside the verandah or something, and was looking for it?

Example of how a different crop can transform a photo. In this case, I followed the "golden rule" of placing the models eyes/nose at roughly thirds in the frame. The original is titled "The Look", something better emphasized in the upper image -- according to my eye at least.

I find concentrating on the eyes or center of a face and puting them somewhere in a "rule of thirds" position provides a great starting point for framing portraits. I try hard to take all my original shots with this in mind. It's SO easy to forget and snap the subject dead center.

The original photo is by crystaline, who has being sharing lots of wonderufl "nudes in nature" with us.

Kia Ora Bryan! Nice DoF and great selective desat. Don't think I'd have the patience myself, but it seems to work rather well here.

I see from your other work that you get around Auckland a fair bit. Might bump into you sometime :) I try to sneak out for shoots, when weather permits, and usually haunt either Eastern Beach or One Tree Hill. Though aside from going all the way out west to Piha/Bethells, I struggle to find truly breathtaking land/seascapes - any tips on good locations around here?

Cheers
Rina.

edit to add: Just re-read your bio! Guess bumping into you is pretty much out of the question! LOL!

Well thanks for the compliments. I completely agree -- the face should have at least been visible. Having the camera up there does nothing to add to the photo at all.

Interestingly, I voted 1's for over 60% of the Portrait challenge entries. They all look so fake. The winners might have well have been airbrushes of computer generated images IHMO. Very dissappointed in the human race over this frankly.

Of over 88,000 voters in the challenge, it would appear only myself and one or two others (literally!) share the same view to the degree I do. Wow. Don't *I* feel special! :)
