Not in MY Dictionaryby strangeghostComment: Clever. The block pattern in the background does seem appropriate and adds to the Scrabble theme. Shot through a glass surface? 7. |

Irisby ShelleyComment: Yep, that works for me. The out-of-focus elements contribute to the impact of the foreground subject. 7. |

"Veuve Clicquot", when you want to see Bubbles...by doctornickComment: Well that's pretty clever, and I think it's what bokeh is really about (it's got to be a critical creative element of the overall impact, not just some out-of-focus crap). I'd like it even more if the bottle label had a tiny bit more of a "glow" somehow, to more closely match the "bubbles". But it's still damn good. 8. |

At the Libraryby kim100878Comment: I don't think this is quite on challenge; I know the books are not in sharp focus, but I don't think that makes it bokeh. Nice candid looking shot though. 5. |

Just Be Clausby scalvertComment: I imagine this will rate very high. While I don't normally care for kid pictures, this particular kid's cute, it's technically a good photo, and the lights do create an appropriate bokeh effect. 7. |

Strung Outby MR_PComment: I've seen this done before, from both the bridge and the nut, but this one is very nice. 7. |

'the seed'by suemackComment: Mundane subject made spectacular by the bokeh effect. What makes it so striking for me is that the in-focus elements are not confined to the nominative subject ... the strong diagonal slashes of the leaves almost appear to be slipping in an out of sharp focus, creating the illusion of movement, as well as an abstract feel. If I imagine it with ONLY the seed head in focus, it would not have the impact you have achieved. And of course, if it were ALL in focus, it would be nothing at all. So I think that is what's meant by bokeh. Also like the absence of any competing colours. Very, very good. I learned a lot from this photo. Thanks! 10. |

Biker Bokehby gustoComment: I like the portrait, but I think this bokeh actually detracts from the subject, rather than enhancing him. To me, this guy simply looks out of place against a gay and festive-looking background. He's gone to a lot of effort to look mean & nasty (hat, shades, beard, hair, ears, staunch expression, & of course all in black), and you treat him like he was Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Maybe you wanted to indicate his true inner man? Or is he coming out of the closet? 5. |
